The Lost Squadron

Operation BOLERO

The plan conceived by Major General Henry “Hap” Arnold, chief of the Army Air Force was to ferry much need fighter planes  (P-38s) and heavy bombers (B-17s) to England from the U.S. via a route from Canada to Greenland, to Iceland, and on to England.

Considered at the time to be daring and risky, the Operation successfully moved hundreds of planes to England to help in the European Theatre of Operations as part of the massive build up of forces going on in Great Britain.
